The 240GD was more tank-like than sporty, fitted with a 2,300-cubic-centimeter, indirect-injection, four-cylinder diesel engine. It achieved 52 kW of output, which is the equivalent of 69.73 horsepower at 4,400 rpm, and had 101.1 ft.-lb. of torque. Its maximum speed was 115 kilometers per hour, or 71 mph.
